APPLICATION OF CONTEXTUAL APPROACH TO LEARNING COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT CHILDREN AGES 4-5 YEARS IN PAUD TUNAS HARAPAN TULUNGAGUNG
The studies raised from One recent by Hart (in Santrock, 2007: 244), comparing 182 children from five kindergarten classes tailored to the good development of participatory activities, integrated curriculum tailored to age groups, cultural, and individual learning styles compared with five other kindergarten classes that have academic emphasis and direct instruction with the use of books / worksheets, learning seat, and routine activities disebuah school system in Louisiana proved that children from both types of classes do not differ in pre-kindergarten readiness, and the classes are balanced in the status the economy. Assessment of teachers on behavior and values of children in the California Achievement Test in third grade obtained. Children who are in classrooms where adjusted to the more advanced development in vocabulary, math applications, and basic computing where the emphasis is basic aspects of cognitive development as well as data obtained in PAUD Tunas Harapan Tulungagung who run day-to-day learning with worksheets contained 60% of 12 students, or about 7 students have problems in understanding the concept of shapes, colors, sizes, and patterns, the concept of numbers, symbols, numbers, and letters.
The gap between the ideal conditions are expected with the actual practices in this field who serve as background research to find out the results of the application of contextual learning approach to the cognitive development of children aged 4-5 years in early childhood Tunas Hope. This study uses a type of pre-experimental research design with pre-test and post-test group design, the design of one group of subjects. Data collection methods used were observations to determine the child’s cognitive development. The subjects of this study were all students of class A PAUD Tunas Harapan Tulungagung. Techniques of data analysis techniques used are non-parametric statistical analysis using Wilcoxon test.
From the calculation results obtained T_hitung <T_tabel. This means that the hypothesis of the study which says “the application of contextual learning approach to deliver results on children’s cognitive development in PAUD Tunas Harapan Tulungagung” is acceptable.
